Third lobe piercings

A lobe (or earlobe) piercing involves a piercing of the lower portion of the earlobe. This ear part is typically softer and more fleshy than the rest.

What are the names of the second and third ear piercings?

Standard lobes are piercings that go into the earlobes first, second, and third times. These can also be called your second or third earlobe piercings.

Where should my second and third places be?

There are no set rules for lobe piercings. Some people prefer symmetry with equal spacing, while others opt for an asymmetrical look (e.g., One in the lobe, and four further up the ear. There are new lobe trends like double vertical or stackable lobe perforations, where the piercings can be stacked vertically. Popular is also the ear constellations trend. This involves piercing three points at the lobe to create a triangle shape. To ensure that the placement is correct, it helps to know your goal.

When you visit our salon, think about what kind of look you want to achieve. Your new piercing should not be more than 8mm from your original piercing. Refer to photos from Pinterest or Instagram to help you show your piercer. Your piercer will discuss how to achieve the look you desire, taking into account the anatomy of your ears.

Healing time and pain

Because there is no cartilage within the earlobes, the pain is mild. The ear lobes take the longest time to heal because they are soft and fleshy. They can heal in as little as 1 to 2 months. You can then change the style of your jewellery to suit your needs.

What type of jewellery can I use for my second and third ear-piercing?

We use Surgical Stainless Steel, which is silver-coloured. However, we also offer Surgical Stainless Steel with a gold- or rose-coloured PVD coating. Ask for Bioplast or titanium if you have sensitive skin or allergies. There are a wide variety of studs and rings available. They can be internally or externally threaded, threadless, or both.

How old do I need to be to have my second and third pierced?

You must have a parent or guardian accompany you if you are younger than 16 to have your lobes pierced. They will also need to sign a consent slip and be present during the procedure. You can bring your own photo ID and come alone if you’re over 16. You may find some exceptions. For more information, please visit our age requirements blog.
