Miami has established itself as the New Fashion Capital

It’s easy to see that Miami has become a more popular destination in recent years. Since remote work has made it possible to do remote work, a new creative class has moved there. It’s been a favorite destination for girls’ trips and bachelorette trips.

Fashion is a top-rated thing (aside from the beautiful weather and the fact that it’s always crowded with people). Google continues to rank “What to Wear In Miami” as a top search term. However, well-known brands consider Miami the best location to host events and fashion shows.

“We read it continually in headlines from all kinds of publications — Miami esthetically ranks as the sexiest U.S. city, and some publications even place it as the sexiest world,” Lourdes Fernandez Velasco, Miami Fashion Week’s Creative Director, says by email. “Miami is at the epicenter for many things right now, and it has been able to keep up with some of the most important events worldwide. There are sporting events like tennis and, more recently, Formula 1. Ultra music festival is there; Art Basel is there. What is going fashion?

Fernandez-Velasco believes Miami is a melting pan and that fashion is the best thing about Miami.

She tells us that Miami Fashion Week is ideal for brands and designers to reach three markets simultaneously: the U.S.A., Europe, and Latin America. Its geographical location is unbeatable.

The city is a magnet for brands who agree. Missoni and Name Khan showed their collections at Miami Fashion Week in June 2022. Riot Swim and Poster Girl also signed up for Miami Swim Week in July. In 2021 Chanel hosted a glamorous, celebrity-filled dinner at Miami’s Design District. This area also hosts several luxury stores, from Versace to Dior.

Shopping, runway shows, and designer dinners are only part of the equation. A city must have a unique style to be considered a Fashion Capital. Diana Perkovic, TV personality and empowerment expert, said Miami has this.

She tells InStyle that she could write an ode to Miami’s women, whom she describes as “unapologetically, effortlessly sexy,” and adds that she moved from L.A. to Miami in 2020. It’s not something you can only see. It’s something you feel, and it’s beautiful. Miami’s style is effortlessly sophisticated and unapologetically sexy. Los Angeles’ style is effortlessly casual and unapologetically casual.

Author Ashley Carricic says she has absorbed the Miami dressing style since moving. She is now more exposed to the sun and embraces bright colors and prints.

She jokingly says that she has never seen her belly button so many times in one week. This is thanks to her constant rotation of tops. My wardrobe consisted of 95% black blouses. I was fond of wearing black on black in N.Y.C. After the first few months of living in 90-degree heat and sun that was stronger than usual, I realized I needed to adapt to Donnie Darko fashion and stopped buying black. Okay, I almost stopped …”
